Gulliver's Travels

Jonathan Swift

Published in 1726 by the Anglo-Irish satirist Jonathan Swift, originally under the pseudonym Lemuel Gulliver. The book recounts Gulliver's four voyages to fantastic lands — Lilliput, Brobdingnag, Laputa, and the country of the Houyhnhnms — each a mirror in which Swift turns his caustic eye on the pretensions of European politics, science, and human nature itself. It is the most widely read and enduring satire in English.
