The Gospel of Matthew

The Gospel according to Matthew, composed in Greek probably between 80 and 90 CE and placed first among the four canonical gospels in the New Testament. It presents Jesus as the promised Messiah of Israel and contains the fullest version of his ethical teaching, including the Sermon on the Mount. Through its liturgical and catechetical use, it has shaped Christian moral imagination more powerfully than any other single text in the New Testament.
