The Acharnians
The earliest surviving comedy of Aristophanes, performed at the Lenaia in 425 BCE during the Peloponnesian War. It tells of a war-weary Athenian farmer who makes his own private peace with Sparta. It is the first of Aristophanes's explicitly anti-war comedies and a landmark of Old Comedy's political satire.
