Ecclesiazusae
Produced around 391 BCE, late in Aristophanes's career. The women of Athens, disguised as men, take over the Assembly and establish a radical communistic regime with shared property and shared wives. The play parodies utopian political schemes — including ideas developed in Plato's Republic — and marks a shift from the biting political comedy of Aristophanes's earlier work toward fantasy and social satire.
