Othello
Notebook
Othello (c. 1603) is Shakespeare's tragedy of jealousy and manipulation. The noble Moorish general Othello, newly married to Desdemona, is destroyed by his ensign Iago, who feeds him false evidence of her infidelity until Othello murders her and then himself. A searing study of trust, racism, and how swiftly love can curdle into deadly suspicion, it gives literature in Iago one of its greatest villains.
