It narrates the poet's allegorical journey through Hell, Purgatory, and Heaven, guided first by Virgil and then by his idealized beloved Beatrice. Widely regarded as the supreme work of medieval Christendom and one of the greatest long poems ever written, it fuses classical, scholastic, and vernacular traditions into a single cosmic vision.
