Physics

Notebook

Aristotle's Physics, composed in the later fourth century BCE, is the foundational treatise of Western natural philosophy. Across eight books it develops the vocabulary that dominated the sciences for nearly two millennia: the four causes, form and matter, potentiality and actuality, the analysis of motion and change, place, void, time, and the argument for an unmoved mover. The work is the primary source for understanding medieval and Scholastic cosmology and the immediate target of the seventeenth-century scientific revolution.
