Aristophanes's last surviving play, performed in 388 BCE and marking the transition from the Old Comedy of political invective toward the milder Middle Comedy. An honest but poor Athenian restores sight to the blind god of wealth, Plutus, so that riches flow to the deserving rather than the wicked. The play is a moral fable about justice and property rather than a topical political satire.
