The second play of Aeschylus's Oresteia trilogy (458 BCE), also known as The Libation Bearers. It follows Orestes as he returns in secret to avenge his father Agamemnon by killing his mother Clytemnestra, deepening the cycle of blood that the trilogy must finally break. The play's central question is whether justice that demands matricide can still be called justice.
